About

Fight against climate change is one of the main priorities of both the Erasmus+ programme and of the participating organisations of this project. In this sense, they will develop a toolbox with drama activities and tools on environmental issues that can be included in a minimum 10 full workshops of a duration of 2/3 hours; a guide that will propose different structures and activities for devising pieces on environmental issues; and a training programme for youth workers and theatre facilitators that will include 10 sessions on how to implement theatre activities on the environment with young people and how to devise performances and theatre pieces. Theatre has many advantages as a tool in youth work: principally that it is a collaborative activity and it is very successful in achieving personal transformation. As such, it is very useful in youth work programmes that attempt to

(a) promote democratic values, and

(b) shift disaffected young people from a position of apathy or anger into one of social engagement and dialogue.

Creative expression, youth creativity, and cultural production are at the heart of several EU policies on youth. The EU Youth Strategy has Creativity and Culture as its 8th action, under which it states that the role of the EU is to:

(1) Support the development of creativity among young people.

(2) Increase access to culture and creative tools.

(3) Make new technologies available to empower young people’s creativity and innovation, and boost interest in culture, the arts and science.

(4) Provide access to places where young people can develop their creativity and interests.

Our project aims to do all of these four actions. We know that in these difficult times youth theatres have closed because they have not had the digital skills necessary to continue online. They also closed because they preferred not to work online, believing that theatre-making is only possible in-person in studios. We aim to provide resources for those working with young people to show them how to work online using drama. Being able to work online will also help involve those young people who cannot attend regular workshops due to rural isolation or other kinds of isolation. The project will also create Multiplier Events in Austria and Ireland, where at symposia and seminars, the material will be disseminated and promoted.
